Iraq - detailed

Timeframe: Iraq is a long term agenda requiring increased attention following increased media attention and resulting public opinion.

Taking: Our foreign interest in Iraq requires complex tasking. It requires counterintelligence (CI), and propaganda, in addition to collection, analysis, and reporting.

Standard of performance: Iraq requires analyzing their governmental and economic stability. CI must be continued to maintain Iraq’s government and security personal. Additionally, propaganda is also of importance for its political stability; democracy should arguably be promoted through propaganda. Despite Iraq’s high profile and importance, collateral damage should not infringe on our military infrastructure. Blowback should be minimized because of public opinion’s curt tolerance toward our involvement.

Oversight: The Senate’s role should include approval of CI operations. Additional involvement includes reviewing the analysis on Iraq’s government and economic stability.

Jurisdiction: The jurisdiction for our involvement in Iraq falls to the CIA for foreign analysis, DIA for military operations, and the Department of State for social/political interactions.

Priority: This is listed as my number three priority because of the public opinion and media surrounding Iraq in conjunction with the global security and counterterrorism implications. It is consider a high priority.
